Petr Klima, a Czech forward who won the Stanley Cup in 1990 with the Edmonton Oilers, has pἀssed away. He was 58. The news was released by both Kadan, where he previously served as general manager, and HC Litvinov, the Czech club where he began his career in the 1981–1982 campaign. It was not stated what caused the deἀth.
The news, according to Litvinov, caused “great pain in the heart.” Four years before the fall of the Iron Curtain, in 1985, Klima left communist Czechoslovakia.
The right winger had 313 regular season goals and 260 assists in 786 games across 13 NHL seasons. In 95 postseason games, he scored another 28 goals while dishing out 24 assists. He has played with the Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
The NHL released a statement in which it expressed its sorrow at Petr Klima’s demise. “Klima’s famous triple-overtime goal in Game 1 of the Final gave the Oilers the 1990 Stanley Cup. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and a lot of fans. It was the Oilers’ final championship victory.
The Oilers posted on Twitter, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the pἀssing of Oilers alum Petr Klima & extend our condolences to his family & all loved ones.”

Klima’s natural hat trick helped the Edmonton Oilers defeat the Minnesota North Stars 7-2 on May 4, 1991, exactly 32 years ago. Klima scored 10 goals in 28 games for his nation. At the 1984 Canada Cup, he was a member of the Czechoslovak team.
