Celebrity biographies are a staple of popular culture. But today we will discuss, the mother of a 6-year-old kid in Virginia who is suspected of sh00ting and critically wounding his first-grade teacher.
Who is Deja Taylor?
On January 6, 2023, Deja Taylor’s child took a gūn to Virginia’s Richneck Elementary School. The instructor, 25-year-old Abigail Zwerner was sh0t in the hand and chest. Zwerner was sh0t multiple times yet managed to survive.
She is seeking $40 million in damages from the school’s current principal, assistant principal and ex-principal on grounds of negligence. Prosecutors announced the charges against Taylor on Monday, April 10, 2023 saying that she faces a felony count of child negligence and a misdemeanor count of recklessly leaving a loaded firearm so as to imperil a child.
After conducting an exhaustive investigation into the sh00ting, the prosecution decided to press charges. Taylor is a quarter-century old. Prosecutors say Gwynn asked for a special grand jury to look into the sh00ting further to determine if any security flaws contributed to the tragedy.
The boy’s family released a statement explaining that their son has a severe impairment and is receiving medical care while being held temporarily by the court.
Newport News Commonwealth’s Attorney Howard Gwynn said that the boy would not be charged in connection with the sh00ting that occurred on January 6 but that Deja Taylor, the boy’s mother had been indicted for felony child neglect and misdemeanor recklessly leaving a loaded firearm as to endanger a child.
According to her lawyer, Taylor plans to surrender later this week. On Monday, April 10, 2023, Gwynn released the following statement:
“Every criminal case is unique in its facts and these facts support these charges but our investigation into the sh00ting continues”.
Also, he has requested a special grand jury look into any potential security flaws that may have led to the sh00ting. Zwerner underwent a total of four operations to become well.
According to the police report, the gun the youngster used belonged to his mother and was legally acquired. A member of the family reported they saw the gūn put away. The youngster, aged 6 was also said to have a severe impairment.
Zwerner claims in her lawsuit that the boy’s parents refused to have their son placed in a special education program with other children who also had behavioral problems. After Taylor’s indictment, Zwerner’s attorney said:
“Abby was sh0t and nearly murdeɼed because accountability failed on numerous fronts. Three months into the probe and today’s release only tackles one of those failures many more remain unresolved”.
“Our lawsuit makes it clear that we are pursuing this matter in civil court on the grounds that we believe the school division violated state law. Those in charge at the school will not be shielded from responsibility for their part in this tragedy”.
Zwerner claims that the school was negligent in its handling of the situation because it ignored several warnings that the student was in a “vἰolent attitude” and armed on the day of the sh00ting.
Defendants include the Newport News School Board, ex-superintendent George Parker III, ex-principal of Richneck Briana Foster Newton and ex-assistant principal of Richneck Ebony Parker. After the sh00ting, the school board fired the superintendent and the school’s associate principal resigned.
The statement from Gwynn:
To determine whether additional charges against additional persons are warranted by the facts and the law, the special grand jury will conduct an investigation, and it may return additional indictments if it finds that additional persons are criminally culpable under the law.
