Elizabeth Chambers claims she was just as shocked as the rest of the public to learn of her ex-husband Armie Hammer’s alleged s*xual abuse and fetishes. The former Current TV anchor and owner of Bird bakery spoke candidly about her relationship with Hammer in an Elle profile published on Wednesday.
She discussed how their romance developed, how his rising fame affected it, and how, towards the end of their relationship, around the time the allegations surfaced, Hammer became “the worst.”
When asked about the breakdown of their relationship with the Cayman Islands during the COVID-19 lockdown, Chambers provided a different perspective than the one given by Hammer in a British GQ profile published in September 2020. In that article, Hammer said he felt like a wolf “caught in a snare” and blamed the tension on a “very complicated, intense situation, with big personalities all locked in a little tiny place.”
“Marriage is always going to be difficult, and, as with any relationship, you go through a process,” Chambers added, noting that it wasn’t entirely a clear, consistent line to their divorce. “Especially if you throw success and fame into the mix; it just becomes more magnified.”
According to Elle, Chambers found that “his behavior was a less caged animal and more aggravating.” She recalled that before this, they had been spending less and less time together and that at one dinner gathering “they didn’t even talk [to one other].”
Hammer’s choice to abandon his wife and children in the Caymans while he and a friend worked to rehabilitate a motel near Joshua Tree National Park was the final straw in an already tense relationship. She reflected, “He was the worst.” Despite the fact that “nine million pieces” of my heart had been shattered, I drove him to the airport.
Unverified social media messages purportedly from the actor expressing interest in cannibalism were among the charges about Hammer’s s*xual obsessions and conduct that surfaced after their breakup. It’s been refuted by Hammer. The mother and bakery owner reported feeling completely taken aback. Chambers elaborated, “I was learning things as the public was.” “I literally thought, ‘There are no words. “What the fuck?'”
Despite her ex-enthusiasm, and husband she said that “boundaries” were an essential component of their marriage. To paraphrase, “[Over time] your spouse is discovering things about themselves,” she said. They’re maturing and you are too; hopefully, you’re maturing together.

Chambers did not react to Hammer in his latest Air Mail interview, which was his first significant sit-down since the allegations first in 2021, although he did continue to deny any activity in an article published on February 4.
According to the Air Mail piece, one of the women who claimed to have had an affair with Hammer was a prominent social media celebrity who, in a message to Hammer’s ex-wife, supposedly referred to herself as “chasing him.” (The accused did not want to comment on the Air Mail article.) According to Hammer, the two of them engaged in a “consensual non-consent scene.”
After being dropped by his talent agency and publicist and leaving films like Shotgun Wedding, Gaslit, and The Offer, he stated in May 2021 that he had entered a treatment facility for substance usage. He said that charges of s*xual assault against him as a teenager prompted his interest in BDSM and that he had suicidal thoughts and attempted suicide afterward.

Chambers told Elle that since the claims and the divorce, she has been preoccupied with thoughts of her children. Gone is any desire for their offspring to share characteristics with both her and Hammer. Do I want my son to turn out like this?” She says, “If my daughter were in this situation, would I want her to stay? My hope is that they will one day be able to assert, “I am separate from what has transpired in previous generations.
I know that my upbringing has shaped me into who I am now, but I refuse to let it define me. She’s also very clear about Hammer’s actions not having anything to do with her.
“The last thing I ever want to do is let someone else’s actions, which have nothing to do with me, make me angry,” she said. “It’s not going to help me, and it’s not going to help anyone around me.
