Last week, a man from Connecticut was jailed on domestic abuse charges just days before he plunged to his death from a rooftop nightclub in New York. The New York City Police Department got a phone at 6:30 p.m. on January 25 reporting that Dale Cheney, a 46-year-old financial entrepreneur, had fallen from the Hyatt Centric Times Square’s Club 54.
Police claimed there was no indication of foul play after an initial inquiry into the father of five’s death. The medical examiner for the city concluded that the many blunt-force injuries sustained were consistent with a suicide.
Court records reveal that Cheney filed for divorce from his wife of 22 years on Jan. 24, a day before he fell. Cheney has an MBA from Harvard Business School and started a finance firm named T-Street Capital. The Wilton Bulletin reported over the weekend that on January 16 he was detained on two misdemeanor offenses, prompting his wife to file for a restraining order.
According to court documents, Cheney had been charged with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, released on a $25,000 bond, and was scheduled to return to court on February 16.
His obituary states that the New Canaan native and his wife first met while they were both undergraduates at Brigham Young University in Utah. Recent public documents reveal that they had owned a $6 million mansion where they entertained guests.

The New York Post reports, citing law enforcement sources, that the couple previously had arguments about money when they both lived on the Upper East Side. Both of Cheney’s murders have been traced back to the same swanky rooftop bar.
According to the authorities, on October 12, a 26-year-old woman from Queens named Elizabeth Gaglewski fell from the building. When police arrived, they discovered her unresponsive on the balcony of the 27th floor. On the spot, she was ruled dead.
