What a journey Cobra Kai has been so far! Sequel to the original Karate Kid trilogy created by Robert Mark Kamen, the series follows the events 34 years after the original trilogy. In this series, we also see Ralph Macchio reprising his role as the Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka also reprising his role as LaRusso’s rival Johnny Lawrence.
Originally launched on YouTube Red back in 2018 and season 2 came out in 2019. Since its release, the series has been a fan favourite. Now that season 5 just came out in 2022, the question that everyone has in their minds is when the sixth season is going to be released. Well, there is no confirmation from the makers of the show yet but the anticipation for the new season is already growing fast. Will the Cobra Kai Season 6 ever release? Or is there more to the story?
Cobra Kai: A Brief Overview Of The Plot
The story of Cobra Kai is set 34 years after the release of the original Karate kid movie. This series in particular, takes a different approach to view the Miyagi verse by narrating the story from the point of view of Johnny Lawrence.
In the show, we see Johnny as a middle-aged man suffering from depression and alcoholism living in an apartment in Reseda, Los Angeles. His life has been miserable since viewers last saw him in Karate Kid II. Working as a handyman with an estranged son, he is shown fighting his own demons.
However, the situation slowly starts changing as he meets Miguel Diaz, a teenager who saves him from the bullies using karate. This gives Johnny the idea to reopen the Cobra Kai dojo and redeem his past. Several misfits who are socially bullied and outcast find their way to his dojo and they find a new purpose in life under Johnny’s guidance.
However, this act rekindles the old rivalry between Johnny and Daniel. The story takes off from there and gives a wholesome viewing experience to all the fans. In the span of 5 seasons, we see several actors reprising their original roles from the trilogy and contributing to the storytelling.
From the inception of the series, it has garnered great reviews and acclaim from critics and fans alike. With season 6 in the works, the series continues to amaze viewers and continue the legacy of the Miyagi verse.
Cobra Kai Season 6: What Do We Know So Far?
The first season of Cobra Kai was released in 2018 with the second season coming out exactly 11 months later in 2019. However, there was a 20 months delay for the third season as YouTube decided to drop the show and it was without a home until Netflix purchased the rights. After that, there has always been almost a year gap between the seasons. So, if that is to believe, we can expect season 6 to come out sometime in the first quarter of 2023.
While Netflix has not yet greenlit the next season officially, there is nothing the fans of the show need to worry about. With great viewership numbers and outstanding critical appreciation, the future of the show is completely secured.
The creators of the show have even hyped the fans for season 6 by teasing the greatest tournament till now where both Cobra Kai led by Johnny and Miyagi dojo now led by Daniel will compete. So, one can only understand how interesting the next season is going to be.
Also, in an interview, Ralph Macchio said they had shot a few scenes which were not cut in Cobra Kai season 5. Moreover, they are planning to use it in the next season.
Season 6 has not been officially confirmed but writer and producer Jon Hurwitz made a tweet in July 2022 that “All I can say is that we expect more Cobra Kai to come and that the Miyagiverse is far from finished.”
Without a doubt, there is going to be Cobra Kai Season 6.
So, if you are a fan of this enthralling action series, you just need to wait for a few months and the show will most likely be back with a new season sometime in the next year.
