Timothy James Curry was born on 19 April 1946 in Grappenhall, Cheshire. He is the son of school secretary Patricia (died June 1999) and Royal Navy chaplain James Curry. When Curry was 12 years old his father died of pneumonia in 1958.
A brain tumor claimed the life of his older sister, Judith, a concert pianist in 2001. Curry was raised primarily in Plymouth. His family relocated to South London after his father’s passing and he first attended boarding school there before enrolling in Bath, Somerset’s Kingswood School.
He matured into a boy soprano with talent. Choosing to focus on performing, he earned a joint BA in theater and English from the University of Birmingham in 1968.

In the 1975 Rocky Horror Picture Show, he returned to his role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, which he had played in the musical stage versions of The Rocky Horror Show in London and Los Angeles in 1973 and 1974.
Curry’s other stage work includes various roles in the original West End production of Hair, Tristan Tzara in the 1975 West End and Broadway productions of Travesties, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the 1980 Broadway production of Amadeus, Alan Swann in the Broadway production of My Favourite Year and King Arthur in Broadway and West End productions of Spamalot from 2005 to 2007.
Curry gained additional recognition for his roles in television and movies such as Wadsworth in Clue, Pennywise in the miniseries It, the Concierge in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers and Rooster Hannigan in the 1982 film adaptation of Annie.
The Shout, Times Square, The Worst Witch, The Hunt for Red October, Oscar, Congo, Charlie’s Angels, Scary Movie 2 and Kinsey are some of her other well-known film performances. In addition, he is a well-known voice actor.
