Padma Lakshmi has stated she will leave her position as host and judge of the cooking competition series “Top Chef” after 17 years and 20 seasons. On Friday, June 2, 2023, Lakshmi posted on Instagram that she has taken the painful decision to leave Top Chef after doing a lot of soul-searching.
The reality show host expressed her desire to devote more time to other endeavors. This includes her Hulu series Taste the Nation which follows Lakshmi as she visits various regions of America to sample local foods; its second season was made available on May 5.
13 Emmy nominations were given to Lakshmi for her role in the program. Since the second season, she has played a prominent role in the enduring series. She referred to the “Top Chef” cast and crew as her families and expressed how much she will miss working alongside them dearly.
An NBC Universal spokesperson said in a statement:
“We are grateful to Padma for being a consummate host, judge and executive producer as well as for bringing her creativity and exceptional palate to every episode over the course of the show’s more than 17 years and 19 seasons. She will always be a part of the Top Chef and NBCUniversal families and she is always welcome to sit at the judges’ table.”

Who Will Replace Padma Lakshmi in Top Chef?
No replacement for Lakshmi has been named yet. Lakshmi revealed in a May interview that she found it difficult to balance her schedule between “Taste the Nation” and “Top Chef” and that she wasn’t sure how long she would want to continue presenting the popular program.
She said:
“I won’t deny that it’s challenging to strike a balance because both of my performances need travel; I can’t just do them while sitting in New York. Would that I could.”
