William John Tell is a member of the piano rock band Something Corporate, in which he plays rhythm guitar and sings backing vocals. After leaving the band in 2004 to pursue a solo career, William Tell was signed to New Door Records as a solo act. You can hold me down, his debut solo album, was released on March 13, 2007. In 2014, Tell earned a Juris Doctor from the USC Gould School of Law.
William John Tell learned to play the guitar from his father (also named William Tell) and began writing his own songs at a tender age. He met some members of Something Corporate through mutual acquaintances and was asked to temporarily fill in for their rhythm guitarist Richard Hernandez, who had left to study abroad, one night when they were all performing at the same nightclub.
Tell officially joined the Drive-Thru Records piano rock ensemble Something Corporate on March 27, 2001. Tell witnessed the success of Something Corporate during the three years he performed with the band, from the release of their EP Audioboxer on October 2, 2001, to the release of their full-length albums Leaving Through the Window (2002) and North (2003), as well as tours with New Found Glory.

His first composition, titled “Radio Sound” (which later appeared on his debut album as “Sounds”), was about his conflicted feelings concerning his departure from his friends and former band.
Tell would continue writing and rewriting material as well as recording over the span of the subsequent two years. Brian Ireland, drummer for Something Corporate, would assist Tell during the recording process and also perform with Tell’s ensemble during live performances. On October 14, 2006, Tell was featured at the Bamboozle Left festival in Pomona, California.
Tell was contracted to New Door Records, a subsidiary of Universal Records, as a solo artist in 2006 and began working on his debut album. On the composition “Fairfax” from the album, he collaborated with another Something Corporate member, Andrew McMahon.
In February 2012, Tell initiated a relationship with Lauren Conrad, a former The Hills star and fashion designer. They became engaged in October 2013 and were married in California on September 13, 2014. On July 5, 2017, their son, Liam James Tell, was born. The birth of their second child, Charlie Wolf, occurred on October 8, 2019.
