Who is Michelle Obama?

Former First Lady of the United States and attorney Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama (born January 17, 1964) is the wife of former President Barack Obama. She served in this role from 2009 to 2017. She made history as the first woman of African descent to hold this office.

Obama attended Columbia University, Princeton University and Harvard Law School after growing up on Chicago’s South Side. She met Barack Obama while both were working as associates at the Sidley Austin law firm in their early careers as lawyers.

After graduating, she worked in NGOs before becoming the vice president for Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center and the associate dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago. In 1992, Michelle wed Barack and the couple now has two daughters.

While her husband was running for president in 2007 and 2008, Michelle Obama did a lot of campaigning and even gave a speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2008. Since then, her convention addresses in 2012, 2016 and 2020 have all been highly praised.

As first lady, Obama promoted issues related to poverty, education, nutrition, physical exercise and healthy eating and she acted as a role model for women everywhere. She was a fashion icon who backed American designers.

What did Michelle Obama Look Like as a child?

Michelle Obama share her childhood photos on her official Instagram account and below we provided all the photos of her childhood. On July 30, 2017, Michelle shared a photo of herself with her mother. She captioned, “Our unconditional love has made me who I am today”.

On May 13, 2018, Obama wrote the caption in a public post: The children and their mother sit for a photo, beaming.

Obama shared a snapshot of herself and her brother having fun in the sun on National Siblings Day. Craig is holding a baseball bat in the photo. Obama wrote in the photo’s description, “My older brother Craig has been there for me for as long as I can remember”.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama shared a throwback photo from her childhood with her brother Craig on Instagram on September 26, 2019. She captioned, “When I think back to my childhood, I remember moments like this with my brother Craig”.

Michelle Obama’s Journey from Sidley & Austin to the White House

After finishing law school, Obama joined the Chicago office of Sidley & Austin as an associate and it was there that she first met her future husband. She was responsible for marketing and IP law at the firm. Since 1993, she has maintained her law license on inactive status out of choice rather than need, but it is still in her possession.

Both the Mayor’s Office and the Department of Planning and Development of Chicago’s city government employed her in 1991. In 1993, she took on the role of executive director for Public Allies’ Chicago chapter, an organization that recruits and trains young people to engage in the public sector on social concerns.

She put in nearly four years at the company and raised more money than anyone else, even twelve years after she departed. Obama subsequently said that until she began working to develop Public Allies, she had never been happier.

Obama founded the University of Chicago’s Community Service Center while serving as its Associate Dean of Student Services in 1996. She started working for the University of Chicago Hospitals in 2002, first as the executive director for community affairs and then as the vice president for Community and External Affairs, starting in May 2005.

She worked part-time at the University of Chicago Hospitals during her husband’s 2008 primary campaign so that she could be home with her girls and help him win the election. She eventually ended up taking time off from work.

Barack Obama criticized Wal-labor Mart’s policies at an AFL-CIO forum in Trenton, New Jersey. On May 14, 2007, Michelle Obama served as a salaried board member of TreeHouse Foods, Inc. a major Wal-Mart supplier from shortly after her husband was seated in the Senate until she cut ties shortly after he announced his candidacy for president.

She also contributed to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs by sitting on its board of directors. She has been leaning toward retirement, the former first lady said in 2021. The former first lady has stated that while she will still be involved in political campaigns, she will be doing less in order to spend more time with her husband.
