Michael Lerner, an actor who appeared in films and television shows such as “Elf” and “Barton Fink,” has passed away. On Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the age of 81, Michael passed away, according to an Instagram post by his nephew Sam Lerner.
You’ve probably seen this actor in something, whether it’s one of his countless television roles or a critically acclaimed film. Michael was an Oscar nominee and accomplished actor whose career was cut tragically short.

Sam posted a series of photographs of the late actor alongside the caption, “Everyone that knows him knows how insane he was – in the best way.” I feel blessed that I was able to spend so much time with him, and we are all blessed that his work will live on for generations to come.

Sam Lerner, Michael’s nephew, took up acting in a similar vein. Sam’s most well-known role is as Geoff Schwartz on The Goldbergs, an ABC sitcom. Actor Ken Lerner is the brother of Michael Lerner. Outside of their individual occupations in show business, the family appears to be incredibly close-knit.
At the tender age of 13, Michael made his acting debut on a regional television program. Then he went to school to become an English teacher, but it was in Brooklyn, New York, where he fell in love with acting. Michael is studying at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art thanks to a Fulbright Scholarship.
