Gabby Amato Obituary: Honoring, “A Loving and Powerful Farewell”

Gabby Amato Obituary

Gabby Amato Obituary

Sadly, Gabby Amato has left us. After her birth in Dorchester, Gabby’s family moved to Springfield, where she grew up. She was proud of her Irish heritage as a child growing up on Hungry Hill (the home of the Irish).

After finishing up at Commerce High, she went to work for New England Tel & Tel as a telephone operator. She met and married Marco Amato, Sr. a year later; the couple eventually had six children. Her son Michael Amato, Sr. and three of her four brothers—William, Joseph and Gerald O’Shaughnessy preceded her in death.

She thrived in family life and as a mother and she succeeded in whatever she attempted. She was a great supporter of her children’s hockey teams and their academic endeavors. She supposedly skated more than her sons. Her enthusiasm for anything Irish was well-known.

She enjoyed singing and dancing to Irish music. Her smile lit up the room as she joyfully belted out her favorite songs. St. Patrick’s Day was her favorite holiday and she celebrated by dancing nonstop. She vacationed in Cape Cod every summer.

Gabby Amato Obituary

According to reports, Her love for her family was unwavering. Sailing, fishing, clamming, singing, and telling stories around a campfire all evoke warm, fuzzy feelings. Gabby loved and protected her family with the ferocity of a lioness. She enjoyed spending time with her brothers immensely.

Everything and everyone serves one individual. For her six children, seven siblings, thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren, she felt nothing but gratitude.

Some of Patricia Serra’s living siblings include Kathleen Asteriades (Ernie), Edward O’Shaughnessy (Gerry), Maureen Wdowiak (Frank) and Patricia Serra (Ron). Her five kids are named Edward, Lynn Corrigall, David (Liz), Patrick (Mary) and Marco Jr.

Her parents are named Andrew Lawrence D’Amato and Adrian Nacole Aliff. They are still with us and among her family members. Her parents are still in the state of Ohio, but they are now located in two different cities: Heath and Crooksville.

She gave birth to her first child a little over a year after meeting her future husband, Marco Amato, Sr., and they have married soon after. Her son Michael Amato, Sr., as well as her husband Marco and three of her four brothers William, Joseph and Gerald O’Shaughnessy, all died before she did.
