On Sunday, April 2, 2023, the Moody Center in Austin, Texas hosted the CMT (Country Music Television) Music Awards. Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown, both of whom were nominated and performed at the awards show, presented the show and announced the winners, as chosen by the audience.
To round off the evening, Kane and his wife Katelyn Brown became the first husband-and-wife combo to win the coveted video of the year award for their 2022 song “Thank God.” This was also Kane’s and Brown’s first win in the category.
Three awards including “male breakthrough video of the year,” were bestowed upon rapper/country artist Jelly Roll on that same Sunday.
Gwen Stefani, Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Keith Urban and Alanis Morissette all performed at the celebration honoring the first decade of “CMT Future Ladies of Country.” Shania Twain, a legend in country music, was recognized with the “CMT Equal Play Award” in 2023.
Other musicians paid tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Lynyrd Skynyrd as well. Even though she didn’t win anything on Sunday, Underwood now has a record 25 CMT Awards victories making her the most successful artist in the show’s history.
