During his show on Monday, Fox News host Tucker Carlson revealed newly obtained film from January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack, which included photographs of the rioter known as the “QAnon Shaman” and Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died as a result of the attack.
Carlson was given access to more than 40,000 hours of Capitol surveillance footage beginning on January 6 thanks to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Not only has CNN asked to see the surveillance tapes, but so have other media outlets. McCarthy’s office has stated that the procedure for making the footage “more broadly available” is still being worked out, but no further comment has been made.
The Capitol Police have often expressed concern that releasing full Capitol security footage could compromise the safety of the building. Carlson said he had Capitol Police evaluate the film before airing it in an effort to minimize the violence and defend the pro-Trump mob.
Carlson emphasized the importance of checking with the Capitol Police before airing any video that could be deemed security-sensitive. And we’re relieved to report that their concerns were, on the whole, understandable and not too serious. Finally, we only muddled up the specifics of one door within the Capitol building.

Shaman’s Function in QAnon
Carlson stated that fresh surveillance footage from the Capitol taken on January 6 shows “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley freely navigating the building without interference from Capitol police.
In one scene, Chansley and two police officers try to enter the Senate through a locked door. A second video shows Chansley being escorted by the same two officers through a crowd of roughly half a dozen more who make no attempt to intervene.
The films do not include any sound, so it is unclear if the police officers and Chansley are interacting with one another. Prosecutors claim, however, that Capitol Police officers made numerous attempts to speak with Chansley and the crowd at large in an effort to get them to disperse.
Chansley, the prosecution claims, disregarded that order and instead made her way to the Senate floor. Video footage from that day shows police officers trailing Chansley throughout the building and eventually entering the chamber with him to continue pleading with the rioters to leave.
Capitol Police officers have testified at many January 6 trials that they felt outnumbered and frightened of escalating violence by engaging with the mob after the initial wave of rioters entered the building. According to the police, the throng was able to move and enter the premises with little to no physical resistance.
On January 6, Chansley pled guilty to a felony charge of interfering with the Electoral College procedures and was sentenced to 41 months in prison.

Death of Sicknick
Carlson released previously unseen surveillance footage of Sicknick, who was reportedly killed in the January 6 uprising. According to Carlson, the reason for his interest in this is that Democrats have made Sicknick a “prop” and a “martyr” by exaggerating the connections between his death and the uprising.
Carlson attempted to cast doubt on the established facts surrounding Sicknick’s death by using the new footage to make the case that the events on January 6 were not as violent or “deadly” as they have been made out to be.
In the footage, Sicknick can be seen in the Capitol’s crypt, continually waving his arms as if to direct the rioters who are crowding about him. Carlson claimed that it was “impossible to think” that Sicknick was seriously harmed by the rioters or that he had died as a result of the uprising on the grounds that he appears “healthy and vigorous” in the video.
On January 6, Sicknick was subjected to a mob onslaught that included pepper spray and a physical altercation. A police officer testified that she witnessed Sicknick in obvious discomfort following the spraying. A day later, he passed away from complications of multiple strokes. The DC medical examiner found that his death was due to natural causes but noted that “everything that transpired (on January 6) played a factor in his health.”
Carlson claims that the new Sicknick recording was made after Sicknick was attacked earlier in the day on the Capitol steps. The additional footage of Sicknick does not contradict the medical examiner’s finding that the events of January 6 had an impact on Sicknick’s death, nor does it remove the fact that Trump supporters assaulted Sicknick on that date.
Although neither rioter was charged with murder in connection with Sicknick’s pepper spray attack, both entered guilty pleas. Whoever used the pepper spray, Julian Khater, is currently serving a six-year sentence. George Tanios, a friend of his, was incarcerated for five months before being released.
Gladys Sicknick, Sicknick’s mother, previously placed blame for her son’s death on Trump supporters. The Sicknick family released a statement Monday night in response to Carlson’s show, in which they criticized Fox News and defended the video as proof that Sicknick “resumed his duties” bravely after being attacked by the mob.
“Every time the anguish of that day seems to have ebbed a bit, institutions like Fox rip our wounds wide open again, and we are plain sick of it,” the Sicknick family stated in their statement.

The Current DOJ Prosecution Status is as follows
More than 999 persons, 326 of whom have been charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees, are facing federal or local charges linked to the attack on January 6. These numbers were revealed by the Justice Department earlier on Monday.
60 Metropolitan Police officers and 80 Capitol Police officers were assaulted at the Capitol that day, according to the department. There were 518 people arrested, and 60 of them have pled guilty to charges relating to assaulting police officers at the federal level.
