Sonic Prime is canon because it is based on mythology, but it is still its own story with the possibility of crossovers between different Sonics in the vein of the Spider-Man films. We aimed to use mythology as a jumping-off point while delving into the characters and situations in novel ways. Ahead of the worldwide release of Sonic Prime on Netflix, we had the chance to ask one of the show’s executive producers a few questions about the ambitious new adaptation. Sonic the Hedgehog is a popular video game character who has been adapted into numerous media over the years from successful live-action films to a slew of TV shows and of course video games that served as a formative experience for many of us growing up.
The new animated Sonic series, Sonic Prime is a joint effort between SEGA, WildBrain, Man of Action and Marza. Deven Mack, Ashleigh Ball, Brian Drummond, Adam Nurada, Shannon Chan-Kent and Kazumi Evans are all featured as voice actors in the series.
Logan McPherson is Sonic Prime’s executive producer and the senior vice president of creative at WildBrain Animation in Canada. The creators of Fireman Sam, Polly Pocket and Snoopy in Space all share the same studio. They’ve made Sonic Prime, Johnny Test, Chip & Potato and Carmen Sandiego for Netflix.
In the case of Man of Action, Sega allowed us to participate in the design process as Logan McPherson explains. We developed the central idea, the cast of characters and the basic structure of the episodes as a group. Thereafter, we worked on the visuals developed a pitch deck outlining the show’s key story beats and made a short teaser to show what the show would be like. The teaser and pitch were successful enough for Netflix to order the pilot.

The story’s fine there’s a long first episode that does a good job of setting the stage for the subsequent 20-minute chapters.
