Back in December 2016, Camila Cabello left the group Fifth Harmony which was formed in 2012 during X-Factor (US). She also opened up on why she parted her ways with the group.

On January 12, 2018 she released her first studio album titled Camila including the famous track ‘Havana.’

Why did Camila Cabello leave the group Fifth Harmony?

In a 2018 interview with the New York Times, she opened up on her collaboration with Shawn Mendes for ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’, creating a tiff in the group.

Furthermore, Camila said she was declined when she asked to aid in writing lyrics for Fifth Harmony tracks.

Reportedly, Camila “initially wanted to stay in the group while working on a solo album, but the other members shut her out instead”.

Camila said “I was just curious and I wanted to learn and I saw all these people around me making music, writing songs and being so free,” adding “I just wanted to do that and it did not work.” After Cabello attended writing sessions with producers like Diplo, she claimed to have received an ultimatum.

She shared “It became clear that it was not possible to do solo stuff and be in the group at the same time,” adding “If anyone wants to explore their individuality, it’s not right for people to tell you no.”

Her hit single ‘Havana’ from her debut album became the longest running female number #1 single after ‘Someone Like You’ by Adele. She also collaborated with other music artists like Kesha, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift for the second longest-running single.

Camila Cabello After Leaving Fifth Harmony

There are undoubtedly differences between Camila Cabello and Fifth Harmony members and things will never be the same among them.

In her album titled Familia she addressed her exit from the group on the song “Psychofreak” which featured Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Lauren Jauregui and Dinah Jane.

In an interview with Reuters, she revealed that the lyrics were actually regarding her then group members and added that it was “basically about anxiety and all of the different things that have made up like my journey with anxiety and starting off really young in the industry.”

She also revealed that she had very few interactions since the exit from the group however, it’s on good terms. Cabello said “We have been, like, supportive of each other through like DMs and stuff,” adding “I’m like, in a really good place with them.”

Cabello’s exit from Fifth Harmony was announced in December 2016, writing “After 4 and a half years of being together, we have been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave Fifth Harmony. We wish her well.”

She also shared that their 2017 MTV VMAs performance hurt her feelings as the group took a dig at her where a fifth woman was suddenly pulled from the stage before when the remainder of the group started performing.

In an interview with the New York Times she said “I think there’s a healthy amount of space you need to give certain things,” adding “I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life. I don’t like holding onto the past, especially when it’s stuff that, in my opinion, is just petty.”

Fifth Harmony took a break in March 2018, following spending 6 years together. The group announced “We are all very excited and grateful to be able to take this time to learn and grow creatively and really find our footing as individuals,” continuing “In doing this we are allowing ourselves to gain new experiences, strengths and perspectives that we can bring back to our Fifth Harmony family.”
