Prison Break Season 6: Prison Break is an American action thriller TV series that was created by Paul Scheuring for Fox. Matt Olmstead, Kevin Hooks, Marty Adelstein, Dawn Parouse, Neal H. Moritz, and Brett Ratner served as the executive producer.

The first season of the series premiered on August 29, 2005, and ended on May 15, 2006, with a total of 22 episodes.

Season one gathered a lot of praise and the series ran for five seasons with the fifth season premiering on April 4, 2017, and ending on May 30, 2017, with a total of 9 episodes. The series has an IMDB rating of 8.3 out of 10 and 6% on Rotten Tomatoes.

After the five successful seasons of the series, fans have been waiting for the new season, and here’s what we know about it so far.

Prison Break Season 6 Release Date

As of now, there is no information revealed about the release date of the series but back in January 2018, Fox revealed that the sixth season was under early development.

Michael Thorn, entertainment president said “It’s in very early stages of development,” adding “But we’re really excited about it.” However, later in August 2019, almost after over a year of confirming season 6, Fox confirmed its plans for Prison Break revival.

Is Prison Break Season 6 Confirmed?

As mentioned, earlier it was revealed that a new season is in the works. Miller, who portrayed Michael Scofield, himself showed an interest in reprising his role under the right situations saying “There’s always room for more, in my mind.

As long as it’s a story that’s worth telling, as long as it feels justified and cool and edgy.” He then added “It has to be something that’s not going to let the fans down, that’s going to satisfy and surprise. I’m open to the conversation.”

Paul Scheuring, who is the creator of the series, took an exit from the project stating that in spite of “desire… from fans… and some of the actors”, he “couldn’t tell you another story about this group of people”.

He then added “Maybe somebody else can,” continuing “Or by accident, I’ll somehow, possibly, dream up another prison escape that’s new and fresh, but I would bet against it.”

The Series’ new season was confirmed originally by FOX CEO Dana Walden, but his successor didn’t seem interested in it later.

In February 2019, after the network’s amalgamation with Disney, the newly-elected Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier stated “There’s no plan right now to revive Prison Break or any of the other franchises, but when the creators come with a story that they think is the right time to tell, we are so ready to listen because those are some franchises of which I’m so proud and feel so fortunate that they’re in our stable.”

It appears that plans had completely halted by August 2019, with the statement in Prison Break writers’ room that read “Nothing is ever dead (remember when Sara was decapitated?), but for now, the elusive season six is not on the cards.”

Later in 2020, Dominic Purcell who portrayed Lincoln, opened up about his expectation for season 6, describing how the COVID-19 pandemic opened a “steely resolve” in him to get it made.

He said “We are all in agreement that if the story is worthy, it will get made,” adding “I’m very optimistic with #socialdistancing and a fierce adherence to expert opinion on how to beat this catastrophic unprecedented event, we all as one will be victorious over #coronavirus – corporations such as #netflix is desperate for content.”

Prison Break Season 6 Cast

Vaun Wilmott said “If the right storyline comes along, I am sure the gang would be back to do it again,” hinting that any main character still breathing at the end of the latest mini-series could come back.

Prison Break Season 6

Though Miller may not be seen again, we can still expect a number of characters to return from the previous seasons. Here are the names:

We can also expect Sarah Wayne Callies to return to reprise her character as Sara Tancredi-Scofield.

Besides, we can also expect Mike Jr returning to reprise his character Ja (Rick Yune)

Paul Adelstein also hinted at his return as Paul Kellerman even after being killed off. He said “I don’t see it as his swan song,” adding “I mean, it’s Prison Break. In all seriousness, how can you ever really know if you should believe what you see?”

And he is not even wrong to claim it after all, as Michael and Sara, both of them returned from the dead.

A significant character that will be missed was then-FBI special agent Alexander Mahone (portrayed by William Fichtner), but will he appear in the new season?

Robert Knepper said at 2016’s San Diego Comic-Con “Paul loves Bill Fichtner and I love Bill Fichtner,” adding “He’s a brilliant actor – but Paul honestly said to me, ‘I don’t know what to do with that character.”’

“He didn’t want to just bring everybody back, so that the audience go, ‘Oh, look, it’s Bill Fichtner again!’ – he honestly thought, ‘I’m not sure where to do that in the plot,’ so if someday there’s another chapter of this, maybe then Bill will be back” Robert added.

Later, Scheuring took to Twitter writing that there was “somewhere between [a] 50-150 percent chance” that Mahone will be back for season six… so fingers crossed!”

Further, the writer said “All characters had to be organically within the series and he didn’t really have a role other than being the sidekick running around in Yemen, which he really didn’t have a skill set for,” adding “So I wish there could’ve been more Sucre.

It would have been creatively disingenuous to include him more than that, but if there’s another season, maybe there’s way more Sucre.”

Though the series’ renewal is still in question, the good part is the renewal isn’t canceled even as well. So, we can keep our hopes high and stay tuned to our website for all the latest updates.
