In 2018, Laine Hardy auditioned for American Idol Season 16, however, he couldn’t manage to go much far during that season and made his way just to the top 50.
In the next year, he didn’t plan to go for the audition, though he went there just to accompany his friend Ashton Gill just to play guitar at her audition but later the judges, Luke Bryan Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, motivated him to give it one more chance and he tried his luck there making his way to the final and even winning the competition and Alejandro Aranda became the runner-up followed by Madison VanDenburg as the second runner-up.
In 2018, Hardy released an EP titled In the Bayou which had three songs. In the same year, his single titled “Blue Christmas” was also released.
After he won American Idol, his coronation single titled “Flame” came out in May 2019 and he also performed the single on The View in the same month. The Louisiana State University Police Department arrested Hardy on April 29, 2022, and sent them to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison after accusations that he tapped his former girlfriend’s Louisiana State University dorm room with an electronic recording device.
As per his arrest warrant, the device, which was retrieved by his former girlfriend and her roommate, was installed in the dorm room’s futon and his former girlfriend became doubtful when he told her details regarding her private life that she hadn’t shared with him yet.
Furthermore, it was also said that Hardy, who was not an LSU student, at a point admitted to his ex-girlfriend that he did even bug her room, however, he lied to her that he dropped the device into a pond. But later, it came to light that Laine was cooperating with investigators after his arrest.
