A look at William Hurt’s marriages and relationships in a nutshell

Hurt’s first marriage, from 1971 to 1982, was to actress Mary Beth Hurt. Additionally, he had a brief marriage to Heidi Henderson. The actor had an affair with ballet dancer Sandra Jennings when he was married.

Beth and Hurt divorced shortly after Jennings’ pregnancy with Hurt’s kid was publicized. In 1983, Jennings gave birth to Alex Hurt’s first child. In 1984, Jennings and Hurt announced their retirement.

According to many sources, Jennings then claimed that living with Hurt in South Carolina for five weeks constituted a common-law marriage. Jennings, who “stole the actor’s wages,” also accused Hurt of physical and emotional abuse.

Hurt later married Heidi Henderson, the daughter of Skitch Henderson (The Tonight Show’s bandleader), in March 1989. According to accounts, Hurt met Henderson “when they were both through alcohol and drug therapy at the Hazelden clinic in Center City, Minn.”

Hurt and Henderson received two boys – Samuel Hurt in 1989 and William Hurt Jr. in 1991. When the couple divorced is unclear.

Hurt, who starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, also has a daughter, Jeanne Bonnaire-Hurt (born in 1994), with French actress Sandrine Bonnaire, whom he dated in the early 1990s.

Hurt was also accused of assaulting his co-star Marlee Matlin, whom he dated for two years on Children of a Lesser God. The two were 16 years apart in age. Hurt was in his mid-thirties, while Marlin was a mere adolescent.
