The February 2022 Nintendo Direct did not provide a release date for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, but the release date for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 may have included a clue.
Fans anticipated news about BOTW 2 during the Nintendo Direct, given it is slated to ship this year but does not yet have a firm release date. Still, it was conspicuously missing from the presentation.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel was initially announced during E3 2019, but Nintendo has remained frustratingly silent on the subject.
Even the game’s most recent appearance at the September 2021 Nintendo Direct remained mysterious, all the more so given Nintendo’s refusal to announce the game’s title.
One certain thing is that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be followed by a sequel in 2022. Fans speculate that it will be the Switch’s major Christmas game in 2022, but no one knows for certain. There is still a possibility that the game may be postponed until 2023.
During the February 2022 Nintendo Direct, the last statement was that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 would be coming to the Switch.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is scheduled for release in September, which may provide insight into Nintendo’s future intentions for The Legend of Zelda. The video game calendar for 2022 remains fairly sparse, particularly in the second half of the year.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Will Not Be Featured During the Holiday Season
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is scheduled to release in September 2022, which is earlier than the typical window for major holiday titles. Most of the year’s top games will premiere in late October/November, allowing consumers to purchase them as presents.
If Nintendo were short of new games for the Christmas season, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 might have stepped in. After all, when Xenoblade Chronicles 2 arrived on December 1, Nintendo deemed it a major Christmas game.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will premiere in September, indicating that the game will be released outside of Christmas. The main Christmas season game might be The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, and Nintendo may not want it to overshadow Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which is why they are separated.
