Rooney Mara Is Pregnant!
A second kid is on the way for Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix! Last Friday, during the German Berlin Film Festival’s La Cocina premiere, Mara made her pregnancy public by walking the red carpet wearing a strapless black gown with a full skirt. Wearing elegant evening gowns, she held her expanding baby bump with her hands.
In September 2020, Mara and Phoenix welcomed River into the world as their first child and announced the news on Instagram. The celebrities have been romantically connected since 2016, although they have opted to avoid publicizing their relationship.
In a letter from May 2021, Rooney Mara shared some special details about her and Joaquin Phoenix’s experience as new parents, in collaboration with animal protection group Farm Sanctuary.
She wrote, “As a new mom, Mother’s Day has taken on a special meaning this year. Raising our baby, River has opened my heart to a whole new life filled with hope and more determination than ever to create a kinder and more sustainable world.”
The mother went on, “I wish all mothers in the animal kingdom could experience that sacred maternal bond with their young, devoid of exploitation by humans. I feel so fortunate to be able to nurture my son in all of the ways that nature intended.”
In a podcast with LaunchLeft last year, the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star talked about growing River in a “creative household” with Phoenix.
She said, “It feels like a creative household—we’re constantly talking about creative things. It doesn’t feel like a two-actor house because I didn’t work for the first three and a half years we were together. Basically, since we’ve been together, I only worked one or two times, and one was really small and short.”
