Where Will Eric Mays’s Funeral Services Held?

On Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. family hour will be held at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd. with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Daniel Moore.

Eric Mays’s death deeply affected the community. After his death, many people expressed their condolences on social media. Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said that Mays’ “strong presence” will be missed at City Hall. Mays’ “bold and courageous service” made him beloved among his constituents in the First Ward. Neeley said:

“This is a tremendous loss for our community and a shock to all friends and family, As our community grieves during this difficult time, on behalf of Councilman Mays’ family, we ask that community members respect their privacy and allow them time and space to mourn. We continue to lift the family in prayer.”

For almost a decade, Mays served as the Flint City Council representative for the First Ward. His continued popularity with his people is shown by the fact that he often garnered the most votes of any of his council colleagues.

He was originally chosen to represent the northwest section of the city in November 2013 when Anita Brown was defeated. In November 2021, voters in the First Ward chose Mays to serve a third term on the council.

He chaired the influential Finance Committee in 2018 and presided over the council as president for a portion of 2021. In 2022, Mays challenged current Flint Mayor Neeley and former Mayor Karen Weaver in an unsuccessful mayoral campaign. Tonya Burns posted on Facebook:
