The real name of Drake is Aubrey Drake Graham. On October 24, 1986, Drake was born in Toronto, Ontario. Dennis Graham, his father is a Memphis-born African-American drummer who formerly shared the stage with Jerry Lee Lewis.
His mother, Sandra “Sandi” Graham is an Ashkenazi Jew from Canada who has held positions as a florist and an English teacher. Drake is a dual citizen of the US and Canada; his ancestry is in the US. He got a bar mitzvah and went to a Jewish day school throughout his boyhood.
When Drake was five years old, his parents separated. After the divorce, he and his mother stayed in Toronto, while his father moved back to Memphis and spent many years behind bars due to drug-related offenses. Graham stayed in the United States until Drake was a young adult due to his tight finances and legal troubles.
Drake grew up in two different neighborhoods. He attended Weston Memorial Junior Public School until grade four and played junior hockey with the Weston Red Wings while residing on Weston Road in Toronto’s working-class west end until grade six.
