On March 31, 1994, Cobain left the rehabilitation center “Exodus Recovery Center” he had checked into the day before, by scaling a six-foot wall. On April 2, 1994, a cab brought Cobain to a gun store in Seattle, where he bought shotgun rounds and got a receipt.

Cobain informed the cab driver that he needed to purchase shells because he had been burglarized. While installing security lights at Cobain’s residence on April 8, 2024, VECA Electric employee Gary T. Smith found the corpse in the greenhouse above the garage at his Lake Washington Boulevard East house.

Smith first assumed Cobain was sleeping until he saw blood coming out from his ear. Additionally, he discovered a suicide note in a flower pot along with a pen that had been put through it. Below we provided a screenshot of Cobain’s suicide note:

A Remington Model 11 20-gauge shotgun purchased for Cobain by his friend, musician Dylan Carlson was found on Cobain’s chest. Carlson lawfully purchased it from Seattle’s Stan Baker’s Gun Shop.

According to the Seattle Police Department’s incident report, Cobain was discovered with a shotgun across his body, a visible gunshot wound to the head. The shotgun pellets were found in a box near the body of Kurt. SPD claims that Kurt Cobain used bullets to commit suicide.

Near his body, a heroin kit was also found. Cobain’s heroin kit complete with syringes and other paraphernalia kept in a cigar box.
