Where Was Sunny Anderson Born and Raised?

Sunny Anderson was born in Lawton, Oklahoma and raised as an Army brat. This allowed her to travel the globe and experience different local cuisines with her food-loving parents, who resided in Germany among other locations.

After graduating from Madison High School in San Antonio, Texas, in June 1993, she joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Seoul, South Korea, as a military radio presenter. She was given the rank of Senior Airman. After that, from 1993 to 1997, she was employed by the Air Force News Agency in San Antonio on radio and television.

In June 1997, Anderson received an honorable discharge from the Air Force. She attended Loyola University in New Orleans. Anderson was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 19. She collaborated with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America in 2014 to increase public awareness of this illness.

Where Did Sunny Anderson Begin Her Career as a Radio Personality?

Anderson was a radio personality at WYLD-FM and KUMX in Fort Polk, Louisiana; KCJZ and KONO-FM in San Antonio; WJWZ in Montgomery, Alabama and WDTJ in Detroit, Michigan, between 1995 and 2001. At the age of 26, Anderson moved to New York City in 2001, where he worked for HOT 97 (WQHT) as a radio presenter from 2001 till 2003.

She owned Sunny’s Delicious Dishes, a Jersey City, New Jersey-based catering business from 2003 to 2005. In October 2005, she made her Food Network debut as a guest on Emeril Live. In July 2008, she started presenting How’d That Get On My Plate?

In addition, she co-hosted the Food Network show Gotta Get It with Marc Istook starting in April 2007 and now presents the show Cooking for Real (starting in April 2008). She was the Food and Lifestyle Editor for Hip Hop Weekly in 2006 and 2007.

In January 2014, Anderson joined Jeff Mauro, Katie Lee, Marcela Valladolid and Geoffrey Zakarian as co-hosts on the Food Network series The Kitchen. Along with the cast of The Kitchen, Anderson ran for the 44th Daytime Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Talk Show/Informative category, however, she was not successful.

The Rachael Ray Show, Good Morning America, The Early Show, The View, The Talk and The Wendy Williams Show are just a few of the talk shows and morning news programs where Anderson has been as a guest chef.

Together with Vince Wilfork, the Hall of Famer of the New England Patriots, Anderson presented NFL Tailgate Takedown in 2022. She served as Food Network’s third-season host of Outrageous Pumpkins in October 2022.
