Is Elaine a Supportive Wife?

She has stepped out to support her husband on a few rare occasions. Famously, Dave unexpectedly left the third season of his popular sketch comedy series Chappelle’s Show in 2005, turned down a $50 million offer and fled to South Africa.

When Dave turned down the contract, he joked about his wife’s reaction during a 2006 appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. He said:

“My wife’s still a little salty at me. She’s not mad at me, but don’t think you’re going to walk away from $50 million and your wife’s just going to be cool with that.”

Later on, he discussed his decision to walk away with Oprah Winfrey.  He said:

“One, I needed a break, Two, we have family and friends down there. I felt like it was a place where I could really reflect … and here’s the other thing: I was only gone for two weeks! They made it sound like it was so mysterious.”

He disclosed that before leaving, he had not given Elaine a call. He said:

“It wasn’t that I didn’t tell my wife, It was [more] like, ‘I’m not telling her until after I’m gone.’ Which was a mistake, but it wasn’t a crazy mistake.”

Elaine is Dave’s support system even though she works in the background of his profession. In 2017, Dave stated he doesn’t look up what people are saying about him online on the Hot 97 radio station in New York. He said:

“My wife, if it gets real bad, she’ll let me know, like, ‘Oh, you should look into this,’ But for the most part, I try not to pay attention to it … I try to keep my business small enough so it can still be authentic enough.”

Dave received the Mark Twain Award for American Humor in 2019 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and she accompanied him. Elaine is seen proudly recording her husband’s acceptance speech on her phone in a ceremony video.

She was also there for her husband’s 2014 GQ Men of the Year nomination. Elaine was most recently seen in pictures with supermodel Naomi Campbell and Dave at the January 2022 Dior Homme fashion show in Paris.
