Where Will Rabbi David Ellenson’s Funeral Services be Held?
It is expected that on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., Congregation Rodeph Sholom, located at 7 West 83rd Street, will have a funeral service. From Monday, December 11, 2023 through Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the family will observe Shiva at Congregation Rodeph Sholom.
Rabbi David Ellenson’s death deeply affected his friends and family members. They shared tributes towards him on social media. Rabbi Angela Buchdahl posted, “I’m heartbroken that in these dark days we have lost one of the world’s greatest Jewish lights.”

Being a highly published author and highly sought-after academic, he served as President, Chancellor and eventually Chancellor Emeritus at HUC-JIR, making him a cornerstone in the world of Reform Judaism.
We had the honor of having him generously and voluntarily impart his insightful knowledge to our members through the numerous eagerly awaited and packed Ad_lt Education Courses and High Holy Day talks he conducted at synagogue.
