Fleury was born on November 28, 1984, in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec a small town near Montreal. The name of Marc Andre Fleury’s parents is André and France Fleury. He has one sibling, a younger sister Marylène.

Andre Fleury’s father, a smoker, sadly frequently suffers from lung cancer which claimed his life at the age of 63.  The fact that he had given up smoking before receiving the diagnosis further adds to the sadness. Marc-Andre said:

Who is Marc Andre Fleury’s Wife?

Fleury married his longtime girlfriend Véronique Larose in 2012. She is of Abenaki and Mi’kmaq descent. The couple has two daughters and a son.

In November 2023 the NHL banned Fleury from wearing a custom mask he had made in honor of his wife’s native background on his team’s Native American Heritage Night. He didn’t start the game, but he wore the helmet during warm-ups despite the possibility of fines for both the team and himself.

Marc-André Fleury’s Blossoming Career in the NHL

Fleury played major junior hockey for four seasons with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles after being selected first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was recognized as the league’s top prospect by the Mike Bossy Trophy and named the top defensive player by the Telus Cup in 2003.

He began playing with the Penguins in 2003–04 and throughout the course of his 13 seasons, the team won three Stanley Cups in 2009, 2016 and 2017. In 2021, he was awarded both the Vezina Trophy and the William M. Jennings Trophy.

After Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur, he is the third goaltender in NHL history to reach the 500-victory milestone. Fleury has competed internationally twice as a junior taking home silver medals in back-to-back World Junior Championships in 2003 and 2004.

Together with Team Canada, he took home a gold medal at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Craig Anderson will retire in 2023 leaving Fleury as the only active goalie who participated in NHL action prior to the 2004–05 lockout.
