Gary obtained a $240 million judgment against Disney in 2000 for allegedly copying the idea for the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. A $23 billion lawsuit that Gary won against R.J. Reynolds in 2019 was rejected on appeal. The case was inspired by the 1996 lung cancer death of Michael Johnson in Escambia County, Florida.
