Skilling began his career at the young age of 14, while still a student at West Aurora High School in Aurora, Illinois, when he was employed by WKKD. The newcomer joined WLXT-TV after three years at WKKD; he or she continues to attend day classes.
Later in 1970, he went back to school to earn a double major in meteorology and journalism. The top student at UW–Madison maintained his academic excellence despite hosting radio and television shows. When he was just starting out, from 1975 through 1978, he was named the best meteorologist in Milwaukee. Indeed, that was a major factor in his rising stardom.
It was announced in 2012 that Sikilling had extended his contract by ten years. According to reports, Skilling has committed to remaining at WGN in Chicago at least till 2022. He is now reportedly the highest-paid weathercaster in the industry and has a net worth of $15 million, so he is living the high life.
