The Inspiring Journey of Dr. Kenneth Peacock

In Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on June 20, 1948, he was born. When Ken retired from his position as Chancellor of Appalachian State University in 2014, he was a member of the Clemmons United Methodist Church.

Ken attended Mars Hill University to complete his undergraduate studies as a first-generation college student. Prior to attending Louisiana State University for his master’s and doctorate in accounting, he started his accounting career at Price Waterhouse in Winston-Salem.

Before arriving in Boone in 1983 to join the Appalachian State University community, he first joined the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce.

In 2007, Ken developed the ACCESS program (Appalachian Commitment to a College Education for Student Success) to offer first-generation, low-income college students from North Carolina a four-year, debt-free Appalachian education.

A priceless legacy of Ken’s commitment to students and their success in the classroom and beyond is this program.
