What Caused Randy Jackson to Quit ‘American Idol’?

After 12 seasons on American Idol’s judging panel, Randy announced his departure in May 2013.

“To put all the speculation to rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol, I have decided to leave after this season,” he announced in a statement.

The way we revolutionized the music and television industries is something of which I am quite proud. Despite the news, he came back for season 13 as a mentor to replace Jimmy Iovine. Randy announced he would not return as a cast member for the upcoming season.

“After 13 seasons, I felt now was the perfect time to leave American Idol,” the singer said in a statement to Deadline in November 2014. I’m honored to have had a role in a show that helped launch the careers of so many talented musicians and will be remembered as one of the most successful in television history. Randy Jackson’s weight loss efforts began when he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2003. It came out that diabetes was a family problem for him. Jackson has been an advocate for those with his ailment after speaking out about it in the media and on social media since his diagnosis.

Jackson claimed to have had weight loss surgery after his 2003 diagnosis, which helped him shed about 114 pounds. The singer and R&B talent weighed more than 350 pounds in the early 2000s, according to an interview he gave to Today in February 2021.

He stated, “I was like 358,” in an interview. Man, I just had to write that down. So, I went ahead and got gastric bypass surgery. My vitamin company, Unify Health Labs, was founded by myself. That’s why I often refer to myself as having “divorced” food. I had to throw it all away and begin again.
