Recently John J. York took a break from his work and his illness is the reason behind it.
John J. York Suffering From Which Disease?
After disclosing a persistent health concern, “General Hospital” star John J. York has decided to take a break from the popular soap opera.
York said in a video, “I said I was going to give you an update on the reason I’m taking a little hiatus from ‘General Hospital,’and here it is.”

The star revealed that he has been diagnosed with multiple smoldering myeloma and myelodysplastic syndromes, two blood and bone marrow conditions.
A myelodysplastic syndrome is a rare group of malignancies that prevent blood stem cells from maturing into healthy blood cells and it affects approximately 4 in 100,000 Americans each year. In an interview, York described how his wife Vicki knew about the situation.
He told:
“She was a mess, The doctor was explaining all these different things and cells and all different levels and words that had, you know, 25 letters in them. And I didn’t understand. And Vicki finally came out and said, ‘Does John have cancer?’ And he said, ‘Yes.’ And I’m sitting there, I’m really just like a fly on the wall, listening to him talk to Vicki because she was the one asking all the questions.”
In a conversation, York discussed the issue revealed to the publication that he has battled ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease since he was 17 years old, which he claimed puts his most recent diagnosis in perspective as just another thing that I gotta now take care of.
