In answer to PlayStation Showcase, Jeff Ross, the game director for Days Gone, added to the disappointment by saying that a sequel to the PS4 game could have come out last month “if we’d just stuck to our guns.”
Since the platform maker turned down Sony Bend’s plans for a Days Gone 2, it makes sense that the company is making a new IP.

Jeff Ross Talks Days Gone Sequel Plans
Ross’s full tweet says, “I get a little bummed out from these PlayStation Showcase shows because they only remind me we could of had Days Gone 2 out a month ago if we’d have just stuck to our guns.”
If this had happened, it would have taken about four years to make a sequel to Days Gone, since the first game is coming out in April 2019.
So, you’d have to think it would be a sequel built mostly on the same ideas as Days Gone, but with some key changes to the gameplay.
Jeff Ross, for example, has said that Days Gone 2 is the “definitive version” of the game because it has better AI for the animals and the ability to swim.

Jeff Ross on What Could Have Been with Days Gone 2?
“I would add more systems,” he said during an interview last year. “Systems are very simple. And if they’re simple, they can be elegant and very rich for the player. I knew adding one or two more layers to the systemic elements of it would have been something that we could have wrapped our heads around, it would have led to a ton of richness for the players and a ton of unique open-world moments and responses that we haven’t seen before. Let’s sink our teeth into this and do something even more epic.”
With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Helldivers 2 coming out in the next six months, a Days Gone 2 release in 2023 would have helped Sony’s plans for the year.
Horizon: Call of the Mountain for PSVR2 is the only first-party game the company has put out so far.
