Sam Williams is a well-known American football defensive end for the National Football League Dallas Cowboys. Before moving to Ole Miss, he played football at Northeast Mississippi Community College. One day after participating in the team’s preseason matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, he was taken into custody late on Sunday, August 20, night.
Why Was Sam Williams Arrested?
He was accused on charges of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The illegal possession of a weapon allegation is a misdemeanour and the restricted drug accusation stemming from the alleged possession of THC is a low-level state felony. Adam Schefter NFL Insider confirmed the news of his arrest by sharing a Facebook post.
The drug was marijuana and THC is the substance in marijuana which can take many different forms. Texas law allows for the restricted use of medical marijuana for those with epilepsy, seizure disorders and a number of other diseases.
Since being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Williams has had two encounters with law enforcement. When he was involved in a two-car collision in December that led to an arrest warrant, it marred an otherwise successful rookie season.
The collision caused Williams’ automobile to be totalled. He and the second car’s driver escaped with minor injuries. They both spent some time in the hospital. Williams left the scene with some facial scratches, a concussion and neck pain.
Due to safety precautions, he missed one game. Williams received a ticket for reckless driving, a misdemeanour. However, more specifics about the issue later surfaced. Prior to the collision on December 22, Plano police claimed that Williams was speeding up to 98 mph in a 55 mph zone while weaving in and out of other cars.
Williams was selected by the Cowboys in the 2022 draft despite his problematic past at the University of Mississippi. In July 2020, Williams was expelled from Ole Miss after being accused of s*xual battery. After the charge was withdrawn two months later, he was rehired.
