The US Women’s Open was held at Pebble Beach, and it was won by American Allisen Corpuz by three shots over Charley Hull of England and Shin Ji-Yai of South Korea.

Corpuz, a 25-year-old native of Honolulu, Hawaii, shot a three-under 69 to tie for first place at nine under and win her maiden LPGA Tour event. The 27-year-old Hull shot a phenomenal 66 in the final round, the lowest score in the tournament, to jump from seventh position to a tie for second.

“Unreal. The week has been a dream come true,” said Corpuz, who shot under par in each of the four rounds. Corpuz lost in the final group after starting the final round one shot behind Nasa Hataoka of Japan, who shot a 76 and finished tied for fourth with American Bailey Tardy at three under.

At the par-three 12th, the tide turned when Corpuz blasted out of a bunker and made a 16-foot par putt, while Hataoka missed a five-foot par putt shortly thereafter to fall two strokes behind the American.

After Hataoka made a bogey on the 14th hole, Hull closed the gap with a birdie from 30 feet on the par-five 16th, bringing him to six under par. Soon after, Corpuz made a birdie putt from seven feet on the par-five 14th, and then she made another from four feet on the 15th to move to 10 under and four strokes ahead of Hull.

In what was the first time the US Women’s Open had been held at the legendary facility on California’s Pacific coast, the American could afford to enjoy the final hole despite a bogey at the 17th that had cut her advantage to three strokes.

“Every few holes, I kind of looked out and said, ‘I’m here at Pebble Beach,'” said Corpuz, whose previous best performance at a major was fourth at last year’s Chevron Championship.

In a tie for 31st place at seven over par were Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh (71) and Ireland’s Leona Maguire (77), while England’s Bronte Law and Jodi Ewart Shadoff finished in 45th and 48th at nine and ten over, respectively. With a final score of 77, Aine Donegan of Ireland finished as the second amateur, one stroke behind Italy’s Benedetta Moresco of nine over.
