From 1986 until 1992, Tobin served as the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator. When Ryan departed to become the head coach of the Eagles, he took over under Mike Ditka. Additionally, he served as a defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions and teams in the CFL and USFL.
Along with his brother Bill, Tobin was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. After playing for the Tigers for two seasons, Vince Tobin went on to work as an assistant coach from 1965 to 1976.
