Choi Sung Bong Obituary

Choi Sung-bong a famous Korean singer who gained notoriety after finishing second on Korea’s Got Talent, committed suἰcide according to Seoul police on Wednesday. He was 33.

Police discovered Choi deἀd at his house in the Yeoksam-dong neighborhood of southern Seoul at 9:41 a.m. on Tuesday (20 June), according to the South Korean wire service Yonthap, which broke the news first.

Choi, who came from a low-income family, left music school because he couldn’t pay the tuition. His big break came in 2011, after years of supporting himself by working as a day laborer, when he was given a slot on Korea’s Got Talent, which was aired on tvN.

Choi impressed the judges of the competition with his operatic rendition of “Nella Fantasia” by Ennio Morricone, and he went on to the finals where he almost lost out on first place by 280 votes.

After signing a record deal with the Korean label Bong Bong Company, Choi wrote a best-selling autobiography chronicling his rise from a life of poverty to internet fame. But in 2021, after he began a public fundraising effort and claimed to be battling numerous cἀncers, his career began to head in the direction of notoriety. Later it was discovered that the episode was fake.

According to Yonhap, the circumstances at Choi’s home when his deἀth was found and a note he sent to his YouTube channel earlier in the week led Seoul police to the conclusion that Choi committed suἰcide.
