Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are married pair that work together. When Union announced on the podcast in May that she and Wade “split everything fifty-fifty” in their home, the revelation quickly went viral.
“It’s weird to say I’m head of household because in this household, we split everything 50/50. But in the other households that each of us has to support, it puts this. There’s always like this gorilla on your back, that’s like, You better work! You better work! You want to sleep in? (Then) somebody might not eat and it’s hard.”
Recently, The 41-year-old retired NBA player spoke about the 50/50 money split during an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast which was released on Monday, June 12, 2023.
Wade stated that he understood why people were confused when Union claimed that they divided everything and he explains how 50/50 works in his marriage with Gabrielle Union.

The deal according to Wade was the result of a flippant remark he made to the 50-year-old actress while they were both living in Miami, as stated by host Shannon Sharpe. Wade told Sharpe:
“I said something about it being my house that I paid for. My wife looked at me and said ‘you will never say that to me again when it’s something that we share, So when we moved to Los Angeles, my wife said ‘I got half on it you will never say my house again, you can say that in the arena!’ “
Wade and Union were wed on August 30th, 2014. Wade departed from the game in 2019 after earning almost $200 million while playing for the Miami Heat. She is still an actor.
Wade claimed that he and Union split the cost of their house equally. He added that “anything that goes on with her, 50/50 we share it together.” Wade said, “We decided that we would share in some aspects of our life.”
The former Miami Heat player clarified that even though he and his wife share their finances equally, they always make sure to take care of their loved ones. Wade said on the podcast:
“I have 20 to 50 responsibilities and my wife has 20 to 50 responsibilities and when I say that, that means she has her mother, she has her sisters, she has her dad so she has a lot of things she’s responsible for, She pays 100% of that and you know what I do? I pay 100% of my life.”
Wade also discussed Union’s prenuptial agreement during their marriage.
“I told her the same way, ‘I’ll sign a prenup too. You’re a millionaire, you got money. You work hard for yourself.’ “
