Shannen Doherty has disclosed that the terminal breἀst cἀncer for which she has been undergoing treatment for several years has spread to her brain. In an emotive Instagram post, Doherty shared a video of herself receiving radiation therapy and wrote in the caption that a scan performed in early January revealed “Mets” or brain metastasis.
The 52-year-old actor, known for her roles in the television series Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210, wrote in the caption –
“My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life. But that fear…. The turmoil….. the timing of it all…. This is what cἀncer can look like.”
The announcement by Doherty was met with an outpouring of support from celebrities and admirers.

“This is a lot to take on, still again.”
“And I am wishing for all the wise peace you have learned to find you in the terror moments. To know we are holding you. Love. All love.”
Kevin Smith, who directed her in the 1995 film Mallrats, said –

Doherty was diagnosed with breἀst cἀncer for the first time in 2015, she underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. She declared in 2017 that she was in remission, then three years later disclosed that she had been diagnosed with terminal breἀst cἀncer.
In a 2020 Good Morning America interview, she said of her second diagnosis –
“It’s a bitter pill to swallow in many ways.”
“I definitely have days where I say, ‘Why me?’ And then I go, ‘Well, why not me? Who else? Who else besides me deserves this? None of us do.’”
Shannen Doherty was diagnosed with breἀst cἀncer at the stage 4 level in February 2020. The most advanced stage of breἀst cἀncer, stage 4 indicates that the disease has progressed to other organs, such as the bones, liver, or lungs.
Doherty’s breἀst cἀncer is triple-negative, meaning it lacks all three receptors commonly targeted by breἀst cἀncer treatments: estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and HER2 receptors. Triple-negative breἀst cἀncer is a more aggressive and difficult to treat form of breἀst cἀncer.
