The contɼoversial tactical s00ter video game Six Days in Fallujah, set in one of the most bl00dy operations of the Iraq War over 20 years ago, received a surprising release date on Wednesday: June 22. It is available in early access on Steam for Windows PCs.

The June 22 launch will include four cooperative four-player missions. Developer Highwire Games and publisher Victura said in a statement:

“These missions are set in urban maps that are generated procedurally every time the game is played, to recreate the uncertainty of combat, along with unlimited replayability.”

The gameplay of Six Days in Fallujah was depicted in a teaser that was released, featuring voiceovers from American soldiers who participated in the conflict there. The Second Battle of Fallujah in November 2004 was “the largest urban assault since 1968,” referring to the North Vietnamese army’s Tet Offensive that year.

 Victura said in the statement:

“cooperatively as special operations or Iraqi soldiers fighting alongside coalition forces, and players will begin to encounter civilians as the battle progresses,”

Additional cooperative missions are planned for the early access period:

“story campaign missions recreating real stories from the Second Battle of Fallujah from the perspective of both coalition forces and Iraqi civilians.”

It is obvious that the operation still traumatizes many American soldiers and Marines who survived it, in addition to the 800 Iraqi civilians who were slain in the door-to-door fghting.

When Konami and Atomic Games discussed working together on Six Days in Fallujah in 2009, the concept received swift and scathing criticism in the media, leading Konami to abandon it. Insolvency for Atomic Games occurred two years later.
