Marshall Martin Obituary

On May 17, 2023, Marshall Manley Martin passed away. His wife Juliet, and children Rodney, Davia, Dave, Michelle, and Nicholas remain. In addition to his niece and nephew, Jennifer and Joseph alias Sukie, who were like brothers to him, his in-laws Ashanti and Candace, Ivan, and Shirley, as well as his siblings Shirley, Phillip, Rainford, Donald, Hazel, and Ashley.

Along with numerous in-laws, grandkids, relatives, and other nieces and nephews, he also left behind. His sisters Gloria and Ivy, as well as parents Moses and Rosetta, predeceased him. Marshall spent his early years in a little community named Braeton in Portmore St. Catherine. He was born on December 29, 1946, to parents Moses and Rosetta Martin in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica. He immigrated to the United States in 1999 and settled in Florida.

Marshall was a devout Christian who loved his family and friends dearly and always tried to provide a hand. He had a good disposition and was always happy and laughing. When he was there, there was never a dull moment.

On June 3, 2023, there will be a funeral ceremony at Margate’s First Christian Church. At 1:00 PM, the family’s open casket will begin; from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, everyone is welcome to attend. Beginning at 2:30 PM, Minister David Fincher will preside over the service. Following the ceremony, a meal will be served on the church grounds.

At the age of 60, he retired with the rank of Master Sergeant after serving his nation for a total of 29 years and 25 days. Marshall and Lola Freeburg exchanged vows on December 15, 1969, in Miami, Oklahoma, and later became husband and wife. The couple made Winfield their permanent home.

Shelly and Dawnya, their two kids, were the reason the couple eventually chose to separate. Marshall and Lola later got back together and wed once more. Tonya, Bettina, and Terra were the third set of females Marshall married at this time. He was once a member of both the American Legion and the Legion Riders. He loved riding his motorcycle and was also an ardent golfer, hunter, camper, and fisherman.

His five daughters Shelly Martin and Michelle Beecher of Winfield, Dawnya Sorg and Darrin Werner of Wichita, Tonya Martin and Charlie Steeprock of Winfield, Bettina Johnson and Jim Bishop of Florida, and Terra Topper and husband Daniel of Winfield are his surviving spouses.

He also leaves behind his grandchildren Richard, Amber, Renee, Philicia, Cameron, Aleana, Anthony, Jazmin, Eli, Austin, and Colton. In addition to his parents, Marshall was also predeceased by his three brothers—Phillip, Maynard, and Bob—one sister—Ruthann, one son—Owen Johnson—and two great-grandchildren—Elijah and Savannah. The American Legion Riders have contributed to the creation of a memorial honoring Marshall.
