Tina Documentary: An Unrevealed Story That Can Inspire You

Tina Turner’s life-based new documentary Tina, streaming on HBO now comes to an end. After the film was released the legendary singer start talking to people about her life. Her life-inspired four books won an Oscar nomination. Turner says:

“Some people say the life that I’ve lived and the performances I gave…the appreciation is lasting with the people and I should be proud of that, I am. But when do you stop being proud? How do you bow out slowly  – just go away?”

Later her husband, Erwin Bach also said:

“She said, ‘I’m going to America and I’m going to say goodbye to my American fans, and I’ll wrap it up.’ I think this documentary and the [musical] – this is it. It’s a closure.”

Tina was born Anna Mae Bullock in Tennessee and raised in a poor family. She came out from there to get a new identity with her husband.

This is a real story of how she struggles and manages everything after being talented. She won more than a dozen Grammy awards on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a Kennedy Center Honor. With her ex-husband Ike Turner she was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 

NPR placed Private Dancer at number 34, which aired in 1984 among the list of 150 Greatest Albums Made by Women. Even though she is not comfortable to talk her and the movie presents a face of her abuse at Ike Turner’s hands. An awkward movement was that journalist Ike Turner when during his Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome film promotion.

Bach talked about all the struggling movements the talented singer faced in her life. In another clip in the movie, Tina described the reason why she did not watch her husband’s movie the Venice Film Festival for her 1993 biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It. “The story was actually written, so that I would no longer have to discuss the issue,” Turner says in the clip, as the film’s star, Angela Bassett, sits next to her, a tight smile plastered on her face. “I don’t love that it’s always talked about… this constant reminder, it’s not so good. I’m not so happy about it.”

After watching the documentary you can understand how avoidance can make a person’s life difficult. Now she wants to re-examine with Bassett; friend Oprah Winfrey; Kurt Loder, MTV news anchor, who authored her biography I, Tina, and playwright Katori Hall.

Her ex-husband who demἰse in 2007, his clips were figured out from his previous interviews. He gives her a new name Tina and prepares an act with her, before divorcing her.  After that, she focused on her career and made a successful name in the rock band history. In the film, you can watch she was so afraid of her husband and tried to commit suicide.

The documentary was released because she wants to expose her past in front of her fans. Her family and the company in which she wants to sing reject her. In fact, she doesn’t like her first hit song “What’s Love Got to Do with It.” Before she meet her present husband, Bach, in 1986, she had never been in any kind of relationship.

Bach was the executive of a German record company. The age difference between her and Bach was nearly 16 years. “I have not received love, almost ever in my life,” she told Loder during interviews in 1985. “I had not one love affair that was genuine and sustained itself. Not one. I’ve been through f*****g tons of heartbreak…Why can’t someone see the beauty in the woman it is that I am?”

Though she was diagnosed with cancer in 2016, and her husband donated one kidney to transplant in 2017. These incidents were not in the movie. Tina dἰed on 24 May 2023, which is announced by her manager on her Instagram account. He wrote 

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”
