During an event on 11 May 2023, Google announced that they removed the waitlist from AI-powered chatbot Bard and allow it in 180 countries. Unfortunately, European countries are not included in this AI race.
In fact, Google is planning to keep the EU away from every part of the AI Act. European Parliament committees hand over their approval for the act and 14 June is scheduled for adoption. Google stated that it “gradually expands to more countries and territories in a way that is consistent with local regulations and our AI principles.”
What is the Google’s New Model?
Google also launched new features for chatbots which are powered by Google’s new latest language model PaLM2, the latest version of PaLM. PaLM 2 was released in April 2023. Bard introduced it as a “conversational AI experiment.”

“We want to get Bard into more people’s hands so they can try it out and share their feedback with us.” “So today we’re removing the waitlist and opening up Bard to over 180 countries and territories — with more coming soon,” said keynote speaker Sissie Hsiao.
Now images can be creat through Bard with the help of Adobe’s AI art generator Firefly via an extension feature that helps to include third-party apps and platforms. Though Bard is available in English, Japanese, and Korean, Google approved it for 40 languages.
Why Google Bard is in Controversy?
After launching Google Bard Google tweeted, “What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope can I tell my 9-year-old about?” Bard replied: “JWST took the very first pictures of a planet outside of our own solar system. But people saw that the output was not correct.”
“This highlights the importance of a rigorous testing process, something that we’re kicking off this week with our Trusted Tester program,” said a Google spokesperson to ZDNet in a statement. In fact, chatbot performance gets several negative feedback.
Bard was not capable to give answers to normal questions, and it responded after a long wait. Google CEO Sundar Pichai described Bard as ‘a souped-up Civic’ in comparison to ChatGPT and Bing Chat.
“Bard will become more visual both in its responses and your prompts. You’ll be able to ask it things like, “What are some must-see sights in New Orleans?” — and in addition to text, you’ll get a helpful response along with rich visuals to give you a much better sense of what you’re exploring” Sissie said.
Google launched LaMDA before Bard, which was described by former Google engineer Blake Lemoine as “sentient.” The controversy becomes high when Google does not accept Lemoin’s statement and lets him go from the company. You can confirm from the below tweet:
