American singer, composer, record producer and TV host Lionel Brockman Richie Jr. was born on June 20, 1949. Before leaving the Motown group Commodores, he became famous in the 1970s as a songwriter and co-lead singer.

With the Commodores, he wrote and sang the smash singles “Easy”, “Sail On”, “Three Times a Lady” and “Still.” He co-wrote and produced Kenny Rogers’ 1980 top-charting single “Lady” for the US Billboard Hot 100. The topic of discussion here is Lionel Richie’s offspring.

From his marriages to Brenda Harvey and Diane Alexander, Lionel Richie, a judge on American Idol has three children. Richie wed his sweetheart from college, Brenda Harvey in 1975. Their daughter Nicole Camille Escovedo now known as Nicole Richie was adopted by the couple eight years later.

Nicole’s biological parents gave their consent for her to live with Richie when she was three years old since they could not afford to raise her. When Nicole was nine, he and his wife officially adopted her.

Richie began seeing Diane Alexander in 1986, while he was still married to Harvey. In December 1995, Richie wed Alexander after divorcing Harvey with whom he had been married for nearly 18 years. Miles Brockman Richie, born in May 1994 and Sofia Richie born in August 1998 are Richie and Alexander’s children.

The marriage between Richie and Alexander dissolved in 2004. Lionel learned through “a massive depression” after his father’s deἀth in 1990 since he had learned so much about parenting from his own father, Lionel Richie Sr. Telling ITV in 2018, “My dad was my hero” he meant it.

But he says his children were instrumental in getting him through it. After Miles joined the family and Nicole was already there, I felt the weight of being the de facto head of the household. Lionel acknowledges that despite his reputation as a free spirit, he can be a tough dad.

Even yet, he understands the value of moderation. He told People in 2019 that you have to approach it with a little bit of humor. My children have been trained to make my life a living hell. To add to that, they’re performing admirably.

My mission while I’m here is to cause them as much embarrassment as possible. The Hello singer is not interested in giving his children advice on their personal lives saying, “You can’t step in there. It doesn’t work,” he says while he is ready to offer them guidance on how to make a name for themselves in the public eye.
