The fictitious gang was inspired at least in part by a real-life urban youth gang that operated in the city between the years 1880 and 1910 under the same name.

Mr. Campbell (Sam Neill)
Mr. Campbell is played by the fantastic Sam Neill. Mr. Campbell is an investigator for the Royal Irish Constabulary. Winston Churchill had Campbell look into the connections between various Birmingham-based individuals and organizations.
His top priority is cleaning up the city from rampant c0rruption and lawlessness. He’s vulneɼable to many characters because he didn’t serve in the wἀr. Campbell will put aside his sense of right and wrong in order to complete the assignment.
Grace Burgess (Annabelle Wallis)
Grace Burgess portrayed by Annabelle Wallis is a mystery character. The Garrison Pub is a popular watering hole in Birmingham and Grace is the new bartender there.
Because of her Irish heritage and troubled past, Grace presents a significant threat to the Peaky Blinders especially their leader who must exercise extreme caution around her. The bartender has as much intelligence if not more than her customers.

Polly Gray (Helen McCrory)
Helen McCrory gives a fantastic performance as Polly Gray. After their mother pἀssed awἀy and their father aband0ned the family, Polly Gray or Aunt Polly took care of the Shelby children. Polly is deeply religious and refuses to erase her gypsy heritage due to the prejudice of others.
Polly is a major influence on The Peaky Blinders and Thomas often takes her advice. The siblings treat her like their mother because she is the only parent figure remaining active in their lives. As if they were her own, she scolds them.
Freddie Thorne (Iddo Goldberg)
In the show, Iddo Goldberg portrays Freddie Thorne. In the Birmingham communist community, Freddie is a major player. He and his family experienced prejudice due to their Jewish identity.
When they were both in the army, Freddie saved Tommy’s life. He goes about covertly with Ada his unrequited love because he knows her brothers would never approve of their connection if they found out.
Ada Shelby (Sophie Rundle)
Ada Shelby is the sole sibling in the Shelby family and Sophie Rundle plays her. She is the lone sibling who does not participate in the Peaky Blinders’ activities. Ada is a communist who is involved in an affair with a former close friend of Tommy’s.
Ada enjoys wearing delicate clothes around the house undetected by her siblings. Don’t be fooled by her timid exterior. Ada is as bit as courageous as her brothers and will stand up for what she believes in, even if it means going against family wishes.

Finn Shelby (Alfie Evans-Meese and Finn Shelby)
Season one stars Alfie Evans-Meese as Finn Shelby while subsequent seasons star Harry Kirton in the role. Because he is the youngest Shelby sibling, Finn is left out of the gang’s discussions and plans. He is always there and he suspects their gἀmbling den is illegἀl.
Due to his young age, Finn is typically kept out of the acti0n. With each pἀssing season, though he matures and eventually contributes his two cents to the family’s decision-making process for better or worse.
Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson)
Paul Anderson is superb in his role as the Shelbys’ vicious oldest kid, Arthur. His short fuse makes it difficult for him to consider the future ramifications of his actions. The firstborn in his family must sit back and let Thomas to take the reins after the latter’s consistent demonstration that he is the most capable leader.
This makes him feel even more conflicted and angry and it will drive him to take dἀngerous risks in an effort to establish his value. Like his brothers, he too has been profoundly impacted by the conflict.
Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy)
Cillian Murphy is outstanding while playing the role of Thomas Shelby. Thomas is the second oldest of his family’s children, but his intelligence and wit put him in a league of his own. Thomas is cunning and understands when to show his hand and when not to.
The war’s savagery and near-deἀth encounters left an indelible mark on him and he returned home with severe PTSD. Thomas’s insistence on keeping his unrealistic intentions to himself adds an air of mystery to his wit. He’s the show’s hero and his decisions will determine whether the Peaky Blinders succeed or fail.
