On Thursday, April 20, 2023, police arr*sted a man of North Carolina in Florida for sh00ting three people, including a 6-year-old girl after a basketball rolled into his yard. Gaston County Police Department said, 24-year-old Robert Singletary surrendered to authorities in Tampa, Florida.
Just before 7 o’clock, the sheriff of Hillsborough County verified his identity. At 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 in Gastonia, Singletary all*gedly opened fἰre w0unding three people: James White who is in critical condition, Ashley Hilderbrand who was lightly w0unded and the ἰnfant.
Another individual was fἰred at but unhἀrmed. Members of Singletary’s family told that the vἰolent ἰncident began after a basketball rolled into his yard during a game between a group of children. According to interviews with the family, the ἰnjured child has been identified as Kinsley White.
The mother Hilderbrand told:
“She heard pow, pow, pow, pow and assumed it was fἰreworks. After hearing the gunsh0ts, everyone began yelling, Get in the house, get in the house, get in the house.”
On Friday, April 21, 2023, Singletary presumably appear before a Florida court. In a press release issued before Singletary turned himself in, Gaston Police Chief Stephen M. Zill noted that his department had collaborated with the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force to find the defendant.
Gaston Police Chief Stephen M. Zill said:
“I want the citizens of Gaston County to know that we will not t0lerate vἰolence of this nature.”
WBTV, a CBS affiliate reports that White’s 6-year-old daughter was the victim of a sh00ting. She told the channel, “The būllet came back and the būllet went in my cheek.”
An eyewitness who lives nearby described the incident as “shocking.” Jonathan Robertson explained:
“They were playing basketball and a ball rolled into his yard and they went to go and get it. It was completely insane.”
This sh00ting adds to the recent spate of incidents in which common mistakes have led to vἰolent outcomes, reviving discussions about stand-your-ground legislation.
