Chris Smith a current XFL player and former defensive lineman for the NFL pἀssed away on Tuesday (18 April) at the age of 31. Smith’s demise was not immediately disclosed, nor were its circumstances.

Chris exerted considerable influence in the locker room. The XFL said that his teammates and the coaching staff loved and respected him. His entire family is in our prayers and in our thoughts during this trying time.

Smith’s high school, West Rowan High School in North Carolina, wrote in a tribute announcing his deἀth Monday on Twitter: “Rest In Peace to a West Rowan Legend!”

Chris was a more excellent person than a player, in my opinion. The statement read, “The effect he had on people around him will be remembered forever.

Smith a Mount Ulla native, played college football for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks before being selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

West Rowan Football posted a tweet relating to Chris Smith pἀssing:

In 2021, he spent eight seasons in the NFL with the Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, and Cincinnati Bengals. In March, he signed with the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL. Commendations flooded social media.

Browns tight end David Njoku tweeted: “Rest in paradise Chris Smith. Hometown hero and a brother to everyone. Such a kind soul. This is Heartbreaking.”

Buffalo Bills tight end Shaq Lawson wrote: “Man Prayers up for Chris Smith family.”

Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr shared a photo of Smith from their days playing together with the caption: “Love you bro.”

The sports director of Madison, Wisconsin’s NBC affiliate WMTV, Mike “Jocko” Jacques, tweeted: “Loved making that dude giggle. I’ll never forget your smile or how diligently you toiled to improve on and off the field.

Mike Kaye a columnist for the Charlotte Observer wrote on Twitter that Smith “had a smile that could light up any room he was in.”

The Athletic reporter Zac Jackson tweeted: “Awful news regarding the passing of former DE Chris Smith, who played for the Browns and Bengals (among other teams). One of the nicest men to ever enter Brown’s locker room was Chris.
