Wisconsin Gunfight Kills 2 Police Officers

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation reports that two police officers were muɼdered in a firefight with a suspect during a traffic stop in Cameron on Saturday.

According to ABC News, a news release from the government said that the officers were from two different police departments. The Wisconsin DOJ said that an officer from the Chetek Police Department stopped a car in Cameron, Wisconsin.  At that time, the officer and the suspect started sh00ting at each other.

Officials say that both the Chetek police officer and the Cameron police officer ded at the scene. In the news release, the state’s justice department said that the suspect had also been klled. Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul tweeted

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss today of two officers.”

“I am thinking of their families and the Chetek and Cameron Police Departments at this incredibly difficult time.”

The officers and the suspect’s names have not been made public. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers tweeted his condolences to the officers’ families and friends. Evers said –

“Our hearts are heavy for the Chetek and Cameron police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty yesterday.”

“Kathy and I are praying for the officers’ families, colleagues, and the Barron County community mourning this tragic loss.”

According to the Wisconsin DOJ, DCI is in charge of the investigation and is working with the Barron County Sheriff’s Office, the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Wisconsin State Crime Lab, and a DCI Crime Response Specialist.

Officials said that when DCI is done with its investigation, it will send its findings to the Barron County District Attorney. Chetek Chief of Police Ron Ambrozaitis said in a statement posted on the department’s Facebook page

“Our community is experiencing a time of great tragedy. As we continue to work through this, please respect the privacy of our law enforcement officers and their families.”

“We want to thank the community for their continued support and overwhelming acts of kindness. The support has been tremendous!”
