The live-action return of a popular Star Wars character is hinted at in a clip from The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 7 that was shown at Star Wars Celebration 2023. In a scene from the upcoming episode, which was seen during the Lucasfilm Studios Showcase event, Moff Gideon inquired about the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Although having only made one appearance in the current Canon, Star Wars: Rebels, Thrawn is regarded as one of the most beloved characters among Star Wars fans. Yet, the character has not just one but two trilogies of books describing his journey, and it is widely rumored that he will shortly make his live-action Star Wars debut in Ahsoka.
But, based on Moff Gideon’s mention of him in this clip, he might arrive earlier than anticipated. The first scene of the clip shows a futuristic city with Elia Kane communicating with Moff Gideon via hologram. When discussing the Mandalorians, Moff inquires which ones are causing issues; naturally, the answer is Bo-Katan and Din Djarin. (Via IGN)
“I shall deal with our Mandalorian friends,” said Moff Gideon, before saying that “Grand Admiral Thrawn is missing. With respect, our one hope for success relies upon the secrecy of his return,” he continued. “I never hear a word of Thrawn. You’ve spoken of his imminent return. Perhaps it’s time that we look to new leadership.”
“Things have been building over the two seasons of the show and Book of Boba Fett,” he said. “Obviously I think when we get to seven and eight, a lot of interesting things have been planted and we’ll see some resolution.”

He claimed that the show’s two seasons and the Book of Boba Fett had seen a buildup of events. Therefore, I believe that by chapters seven and eight, many intriguing ideas will have been planted, and a resolution will occur.
In a review of last week’s episode, IGN said:
“The Mandalorian gets very silly in “Guns for Hire,” where Bo-Katan and Din Djarin can’t meet with more Mandalorians until they do a side quest for Jack Black and Lizzo. While the episode looks lovely, a thin mystery and obvious finale leave it feeling unsatisfying.”
