On Thursday, April 6, 2023, the memorial service for Springfield Township Police Officer Tim Unwin at Spring Grove Funeral Home was standing room only. Many Springfield Township residents came out to honor the life of a police officer who was kἰlled last week while on duty.

Americans waved flags and stood with their hands over their hearts as they watched visitors file into Arlington National Cemetery. They attended Officer Tim Unwin’s funeral to express their respects.

Chief Richard Wallace, who is also president of the Hamilton County Police Association, made the statement.

“I think the officers just lean on one another because a deἀth in any type is a tragic, but you know, when it’s performance of the job, it makes it even worse”.

Officers blocked off Spring Grove Avenue as the hearse pulled up. Honor guard officers disembarked from the buses and filed towards the funeral home’s main building. Many showed up to the service despite the heavy rain. Wallace said:

“I would say the majority of officers that came today probably didn’t even know Tim Unwin, but they’re here to support their fellow officers as well as his family and we continue to send prayers out to everyone involved. It’s difficult”.

Several people came out to show their support for Unwin’s family and the police department. Tears were shed, hugs were shared and stories were told about the fallen officer. Chief Rick Bley of the Springfield Township Police Department said:

“Tim, we saw you with that rainbow over our police department last Friday when you dἰed, We heard your thunder yesterday, at church. We get it. We know you love us and we love you too. But rest easy because we all got this.”

Dozens of emergency vehicles drove into Mt. Healthy, where Officer Unwin was slain, following the hearse carrying the officer’s body. William Dunson a second driver from Cincinnati was also slain on March 31.

At the request of the officer’s family, Dunson was also recognized during the officer’s visitation and funeral. Dunson’s memorial service will be held at the Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Church on West Galbraith Avenue on Saturday, April 15. Funeral services for Dunson will be held at 1 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.

The Springfield Township Police Station, located at 11: 30 Compton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio is accepting condolence messages for the Unwin and Dunson families in the form of signed register books. To aid the Dunson family in paying for funeral costs and other miscellaneous expenses, Spring Grove Funeral Homes also organized a fundraiser.

All of the money will go to the Dunson family. Four years into his law enforcement career, Unwin had already spent two years with the Springfield Township Police Department. His age was given as 31.

According to the police of Springfield Township, Dunson was helpful to both the local community and his church. He had four children from their 27-year marriage.
